The Story Of The Floodplain Collection
The Floodplain Collection
The NT has what is known as the wet season where an average of 1700mm of rain falls. For the landscape to survive, it needs systems to move massive amounts of water that can fall in a short period of time. It does this through the big rivers and what is known as floodplains which are big areas of flat country that sit between the rivers and higher country. The floodplains hold that water until the rivers can move it into the bays and oceans.
The floodplains are extensive in the top end and there provide a never-ending landscape for exploration. The annual change is extensive as they go from fully underwater to dry and this collection celebrates one of the Territory’s natural wonders - the floodplain system.
