The Australian bushfires of late 2019 into early 2020 can not be described it’s that simple. I watched it unfold from here in Darwin and having been trained to fight fires on Naval warships and experienced fires whilst living and travelling Australia, I fully understand the terrifying nature of fire when it grows out of control. It cannot be stopped once it gets going. It generates its own weather system that gives an energy which disregards the weather systems around it. Here in the Territory we have a culture of over-burning and it is destroying or has destroyed vast ecosystems. In Australia we have the balance of fire management very wrong and I hope we can see drastic change in the coming years. Firestorm is my interpretation from a tidal creek reaching up on to the floodplains near Gunn Point. Tendrils reaching and branching for that next source of fuel and energy.
