About Jarrangbarnmi - Kooplin Gorge
Jarrangbarnmi or Koolpin Gorge in Kakadu National Park is situated in the southern region of the park near Gunlom. Due to the importance as a breeding ground for many species of birds the area is protected under Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2000 and therefore a permit is required to enter the area. This is one of the reasons why it one on my favourite areas of the park because the maximum number allowed in there at any one time is 40 - it is always going to be relatively quiet. This image was captured early one morning as the escarpment slowly came to life.
