About Austin Freeway
Wrecked cars used by a part of the landscape before it became a viable business for scrap metal dealers to collect them. One area that has been missed is the Barkly Tablelands where there a few classics still around. The Austin Freeway was manufactured by BMC Australia in 1962 and was based on the Austin A60 Cambridge. The identifying difference was the grill under the headlight which initially made it hard to identify as it looked like an Austin but none of the Austin models had this grill and BMC make very little mention of the Freeway. I captured this image on one of month long trips to the Barkly Tablelands. It is also to a very large Yellow Spotted Monitor who lives under the front floor.
