Creeks make their own path according to geographical features that guide their direction but in this case, it was more than just the main creek that was wandering. It is almost impossible to determine the direction of flow amongst the myriad of wandering creeklets and water lines all flowing in different directions. Some are flowing into the billabong at the bottom of the image, but then as you approach the main creek the water lines reverse and take the water the other way into the algae covered green creek. On closer inspection, it can be seen the floodplain does carry water into the main creek. It appears the water in green creek is not much of a flow, which is evident from the algae which grows more in sedentary water as compared to the billabong at the bottom which has clearer and deeper water that flows away. Water will wander in random patterns that are constantly changing.
